Provider-Types

• HHA - An organization that gives home care services, like skilled nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and personal care by home health aides.
• Inpatient - A facility, other than psychiatric, which primarily provides diagnostic, therapeutic (both surgical and nonsurgical) and rehabilitation services by or under the supervision of physicians, to patients admitted for a variety of medical conditions.
• SNF - A facility (which meets specific regulatory certification requirements) which primarily provides inpatient skilled nursing care and related services to patients who require medical, nursing, or rehabilitative services but does not provide the level of care or treatment available in a hospital.

Data-Categories

• Financial - Financial data tracks the flow of resources in, through, and out of the HCO across an extended period of time. This data covers staff utilization, costs, charges, revenue, and overall financial health. Our primary source for all financial data is from HCRIS cost reports filed for the purpose of reimbursement.
• Quality - Healthcare quality is commonly defined as the degree to which health care services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge¹. Healthcare quality data encompasses areas such as safety, timeliness, satisfaction, and value among others. Much like the cost-reporting program described above, CMS is mandated to publicly release HCO (hospitals, nursing homes, etc.) quality data so that the public can compare specific-providers across certain dimensions like safety or value. In many cases, HCOs receive imbursement depending on how they perform relative to a predetermined standard.
• Geographic - We define the geographic category broadly as any and all data that directly or indirectly contibrutes to inference regarding an HCO within its regional environment. This also includes provider facility information as well as basic organizational characteristics. Geographic data has the potential to be informative regarding regional demand, market competition, labor pool/rates, and access to care among others.
